the movement movement

1. Movement

this installment of my phosphorescent film project features as soundtrack The Disband’s “The Whole Room Is Silent.” i had an enjoyable time matching the editing techniques to the particularities of the music. in fact, one of the most interesting things for me, working on this, has been how each movement seems to require different film editing styles, not only because of the thematic material, but also because of the music. “Movement” introduces some of the visual motifs used in the latter two segments, “Intensity” and “Nostalgia,” and at the same time tells a story of sorts about moving on and moving with.

some may ask: what’s the significance of the case, and what’s in it?

to which i say: there is both a literal and figurative answer. Ooooooh.

man, do you think we don’t know a “giving up everything and joining the peace corps where i can try to achieve a transcendent stasis away from caging consumer culture and the shackles of modernity” video when we see one? i hope hope you didn’t actually pawn your trumpet or your musician dreams, but otherwise this is probably my favorite yet. the music is the best it’s been, i think, and the timed cuts enhance the whole thing. LAYERS! awesome. we could make beautiful art in the city… but i can wait a few years for you to get back from the jungles of peru i suppose.

speaking of art in the city. you should hand deliver your videos to us so that me and nick could work on some cover art. of course we only require a small fee for our services — you unpacking and finding an apartment to stay nearby…

mad props on those last few dissolve overlays. they looked like the complete bomb…now if only i could finish reading these five volumes of final cut pro (it’s tricky switching to the mac!) and shoot something myself…

re: bat’s message: it was fun hanging out when you came to the city. we three could easily telescope into a thousand points of drunken light.
