context, review to come:

Went to see Joe Yoga’s one-night-only one-man-play on Sunday and had this really affecting experience that I’m not sure I’ve had recently where I had confidently high expectations that were just, simply, completely surpassed.

With friend stuff like this everyone hopes so sincerely that the thing’s going to be a success (& in NYC that can be a very fragile hope). To have been so comprehensively blown away – it was a gift. Especially since most of the audience were part of the St. Mark’s scene, foundational to Yoga as a performer – emotionally invested, hearts tied to the plot & hoping for catharsis. Ultimately, triumphant. It was just one of those moments, I was proud to have been there.

I took some video but the camera died after about seven minutes… there’s a full vid somewhere out there, one that should do Joe more justice, and once it’s available I recommend checking it out (I’ll point to it from here, so watch this space). For now, the clip:

home waiting for a couch to be delivered (funnily, the same couch my mom apparently has in her living room!) and decided to get an AMR mp3 player up. This one is less exhaustive than the last one – only 25 compared to over 100 songs – but should load fast and will remain conveniently in the sidebar.

If you think of any songs you want me to upload into this player, let me know – and repost if you like what you hear, right?

Friend of a Friend spotlights people of interest to the greater AMR community: poets, rockers, artists, aesthetes, and assorted bon vivants. The series is called Friend of a Friend because all the interviewees are my friends, and hopefully you’ll be their friend too once I introduce them to you. – Nick Courage
